Ryan Roushandel joins San Antonio FC

San Antonio FC have added a useful defender to their squad for the remainder of the season as they were able to secure the services of Ryan Roushandel. Roushandel has been on trial with the club for a number of weeks, working with the team in training and secured a contract on Thursday.

The move to San Antonio comes after Roushandel has been stranded in recent months, after spending the 2015 season at the Austin Aztex. The move to San Antonio gives Roushandel something of a career life-line but his experience makes things surprising for Roushandel to have been so long out of the game.

Roushandel played 13 times for the Aztex, five as a starter, in 2015 after spending 2014 at Atlanta Silverbacks. At his home town Atlanta, Roushandel played just shy of 2000 minutes, netting a goal in the process.

There is a gap in Roushandel’s career before playing in Atlanta, where he got coaching experience after playing in the Silverbacks reserves. Roushandel returned to the University of Central Florida serving as a graduate assistant.

After leaving UCF Roushandel started his professional career abroad, playing two seasons with Costa Rican club Brujas FC, spending two years there. He only made eight appearances in those two years and moved to Puerto Rico with Sevilla FC Puerto Rico, spending a season there, and scoring his first ever professional goal while there, playing six matches in the process.

Following that run Roushandel returned to the United States and played for the Silverbacks Reserves before his break and getting in to coaching. Like so many other players in the club, San Antonio FC represents a chance to get his career back on track, after the Aztex hiatus stalled things, and provides a San Antonio defense which has made plenty of mistakes some needed depth.
