With the FIFA international break taking place this week there are plenty of Texas based players who will not get a break as they head off to international duty with various national teams over the globe.
There are three Texas based players in the United States men’s squad on differing ends of their international careers. DaMarcus Beasley of Houston Dynamo is there along with two players from in-state rivals FC Dallas Kellyn Acosta and Matt Hedges. Both the FC Dallas players played in the USMNT friendly against Venezuela last week.
One other Texas based player will be appearing for the United States over the international break as Carli Lloyd will be representing the women’s team in their European tour. She was supposed to be joined by her Dash teammate Morgan Brian, but Brian suffered an injury keeping her out of the tour.
Honduras has the most representatives from Texan teams with four players across the two Texas MLS teams representing Honduras. Alberth Elis, Boniek Garcia, and Romell Quioto all join Honduras from Houston and they will be joined by Maynor Figueroa of FC Dallas as Honduras face big world cup qualifiers.
One of the opponents for Honduras will be Panama which will include another Texas based player in Houston’s Adolfo Machado called in to the Panamanian squad.
The final Texan called up to their national team for this international break is Canadian Tesho Akindele as they will play a friendly against Curacao as preparation for the Gold Cup. That match could be his 14th appearance for Canada after he debuted for the team in 2015.
