While Houston Dynamo have the worst road record in Major League Soccer, they are unbeatable at home and showed why as they destroyed Real Salt Lake 5-1 at BBVA Compass Stadium on Wednesday night.
It was a dominant performance from the Dynamo who got started early, taking charge of the match from the opening whistle. They opened the scoring in the third minute when Alex set up Mauto Manotas inside the box. Manotas shot but Schmidt stole possession only to clear the ball in to the back of his own net and give Houston the lead.
Alex and Manotas were determined in the match and in the 15th minute the two combined again to double the Houston lead. Alex played the ball short to Manotas who then returned the favor, allowing Alex to enter the box and shoot across the face to make it 2-0.
With the half closing Houston Dynamo was able to extend their lead through a second goal from Manotas. Alberth Ellis made a run up the right hand side and was able to send the ball forward for Erick Torres who set up Manotas to redirect the ball away from the keeper for a 3-0 half-time lead.
Just seven minutes in to the second half Houston made it four with Torres able to score his first goal of the match. Alex sent a through ball to Elis on the right, he cut inside the box and crossed to Torres at the far post, left with a simple tap in.
Real Salt Lake finally responded and got their goal in the 63rd minute to give the Utah club some hope of coming back in to the match. The goal came from an impressive free kick from Joao Plata who hit a shot in to the top left corner making it 4-1.
Just five minutes later Houston was able to respond and make it 5-1 after a cross from Boniek Garcia. That cross came after Ricardo Clark found Garcia on the right, he crossed in to the box with Leonardo leaping the highest to get the goal and wrap up the 5-1 score line.
