Tulsa Roughnecks Last Match Summary (v Portland Timbers 2)

It has been a phenomenal change from the 2016 Tulsa Roughnecks and with a strong win over Portland they have found themselves in third place. “They are a very different team than last year,” says San Antonio FC head coach Darren Powell and he is correct.

Not only are Tulsa Roughnecks winning matches, they’re doing show by playing entertaining and quick football, perhaps the most vastly changed team in the league this year. The sore last week perhaps flattered Tulsa a little bit as they managed a penalty and a counter attack but they did well to still convert the chances.

Statistical Note:  A San Antonio club has never defeated a USL team in a US Open Cup match, the Scorpions lost to Charlotte Eagles (when they were a USL club) and Austin Aztex.

Key to the Match: “Score more goals than them on the night” said Powell in training on Monday jokingly, not wanting to give away too much. It’s clear that Tulsa are a very different prospect this year compared to last year. The key will be that San Antonio FC back five which has been so strong, securing another clean sheet on Friday night.

Powell confirmed at training this week that the side has not practiced penalties, “we practiced them before the Dutch Lions match,” he said, “I have a list in my pocket and I am confident in them to do the job.”

Prediction: Tulsa Roughnecks 1 San Antonio FC 2 (after extra time)
