The US Open Cup fourth round draw was made on Thursday and there could be a big match for San Antonio FC fans as they were drawn against FC Dallas should they win in the third round.
San Antonio FC was always bound to face either FC Dallas or Houston Dynamo in the fourth round and thankfully they have been given some variety after playing Houston last year. Of course both teams are undefeated, with few undefeated professional teams left in America one of those streaks will end.
Major League Soccer teams join the US Open Cup in the fourth round and rarely have to play each other. That sets up two matches involving Texan teams in the fourth round of a tournament that has a defending champion from Texas in FC Dallas.
Houston Dynamo was the first Texas team out of the hat and they will definitely be on the road regardless of the result in the third round. They will player the winner of the Charlotte Independence v North Carolina FC match, which should be a tight and entertaining derby.
That leaves just one match with Texas teams as FC Dallas will play the winner of Tulsa Roughnecks v San Antonio FC. Dallas could not be drawn against OKC Energy as they have an affiliate agreement with them, leaving this match as the only regional possibility.
Should Tulsa win FC Dallas will host the match but at the campus of Southern Methodist University, allowing others in the DFW area to see their team. Should San Antonio win the match will be hosted by San Antonio FC at Toyota Field. All matches are taking place June 14th.
