Two San Antonio FC players have been named in to the USL team of the week with Diego Restrepo named the starting goalkeeper and Peka named to the bench of the squad announced on Tuesday.
Restrepo had a phenomenal performance in goal against Sacramento Republic, although statistically only making four saves, all of them were impressive. Most notably Restrepo managed a phenomenal one-on-one save in the first half when Sacramento was dominating the match.
It was the first clean sheet for Diego Restrepo in his San Antonio FC career, as he made a strong case for holding on to the starting position when Matt Cardone recovers from injury. In a match with two strong goalkeepers, getting the win no doubt pushed Restrepo over the top.
“He’s grown as a goalkeeper” said Darren Powell after the match on Saturday. “It’s not the way you want to get your chance but he’s taken it and he’s done really well.”
Also making the team of the week was Pecka who gave a solid performance in midfield, making 44 passes at a completion rate of 93.5%. He was also useful to the team defensively making four interceptions as he got back quickly to cut out any plays coming through from the Republic.
The surprise exclusion from San Antonio FC is Kris Tyrpak who had an impressive night for San Antonio FC but in a week with impressive performances for a number of midfielders in the league Tyrpak missed the cut, perhaps also due to wanting balance among the teams represented.
