Brandeis Destroy Stevens in big Girls Soccer win

Brandeis continued their strong season in recent weeks as they won the big girls’ varsity match on Wednesday against Stevens at Gustafson Stadium. Brandeis managed a big 8-0 victory over Stevens, continuing their march up the San Antonio girls’ varsity rankings.

The Broncos dominated the match from the very opening whistle as they tore apart a Stevens side that never really got going. Despite that the Stevens goalkeeper did somehow manage to pull off an incredible 20 saves just emphasizing Brandeis’ domination of the match.

There were two stars for Brandeis, most notably as Marissa Arias managed a hat-trick, the sophomore forward scoring on either side of half-time. The other star was junior attacking midfielder Samantha Palomino, who managed to be involved in six of the eight goals, scoring one and laying off assists for five of them.

The first goal came early and it was Palomino who was able to score the goal getting on the end of a ball from senior midfielder Alyssa Blankenship. That early goal got Brandeis going and shortly afterward Palomino provided an assist for senior midfielder Ciera Fuentes to score the goal.

With a two goal lead the Broncos continued carrying things on in the half as Palomino laid off her second assist. This time she found junior midfielder Victoria Villasenor to push things even further in their side.

The Broncos still managed two more goals in the half with Arias managing a goal on her own to make it four. By half-time it was 5-0 as Palomino was able to set up freshman attacking midfielder for yet another goal.

All the second half did was slow down the scoring, while Stevens performed better, Brandeis still dominated. Arias got things going in the second half, again without an assist to push it up to six.

The seventh came midway through the half as Palomino laid off yet another assist as she set up freshman midfielder Ashlyn Zingelmann. The final goal came as the two stars combined later in the half as Palomino set up Arias for a final score of 8-0.
