There were plenty of matches around San Antonio as the varsity season really picked up on Tuesday with a number of boys district matches. Smithson Valley started to get back to form as they managed a 3-1 win over Canyon.
It was a strong second half from Smithson Valley as they had to overcome a half-time deficit to claim the win. Junior forward Luis Green was the star for Smithson Valley as he managed to be involved in three goals, scoring a brace and laying off an assist.
The first half was tight, with neither side really able to get going in the first 40 minutes of the match, but Canyon just about edged it. Canyon were able to finally break through as junior midfielder Adam Skolaut broke through and found the only goal of the half to give Canyon a 1-0 lead at the half.
After a half-time deficit Smithson Valley came out determined to get a goal back in to the match and early in the half they had their equalizer. Green was able to get on the ball and find enough space to set up junior forward Noel Perez who easily finished the chance to make it level.
Following up from that Green turned goal scorer after some neat work allowed Smithson Valley to take the lead. Sophomore forward Terrell Hare got on to the ball and found enough space to cut it back for Green who easily buried the opportunity.
The final goal also came through Green as he put away a third for Smithson Valley in the closing stages of the match. The goal came off a strong assist by freshman midfielder Brett Dildy who was able to find Green allowing him a simple finish to wrap up the 3-1 win.
