San Antonio’s USL team has their first exclusive executive as they appointed Tim Holt as the managing director of the club. Holt will also serve as a Vice President for Spurs Sports and Entertainment and will be in charge of all off field elements of the club, and collaborate with head coach Darren Powell on player signings.
Holt follows the same route to San Antonio as Darren Powell, joining the club from Orlando City, whom he joined in 2015. Holt was the vice president of development at Orlando, helping in the establishment of Orlando City B in the USL and Orlando Pride in the NWSL.
Prior to joining Orlando City, Tim Holt was the president of USL, serving with the organization from 2009-2015, leading the USL Pro and PDL from contraction to growth. It was under Holt’s leadership that the USL linked with Major League Soccer, and to add a Texas link, it was Holt who handed the Austin Aztex their PDL Championship trophy.
It was also while USL was under Holt’s leadership that Spurs Sports and Entertainment first made contact with the league. “We’ve known Tim a long time and have always admired his leadership and dedication in leading the USL and expanding soccer in the U.S.,” said Rick Pych, Spurs Sports & Entertainment President of Business Operations, in the press release. “Tim is one of the top executives in soccer and with his extensive experience in this industry, there isn’t a better person to lead our franchise.”
Holt is ready to hit the ground running, although not in San Antonio yet, he will be arriving shortly and set forth his goals in the press release. “I’m excited to be a part of one of the most respected organizations in all of professional sports and join the kick off for this unique opportunity to develop soccer in San Antonio,” said Tim Holt. “We will elevate professional soccer in San Antonio to the highest level and provide the community with the best possible fan experience. With our collaborative partnership with the City of San Antonio and Bexar County and the support of a passionate fan base, we have a great foundation in place for success.”
