The might of Argentina made their way to BBVA Compass Stadium on Friday night and took on the much less fancied Bolivia. Backed by a fast start, and strong performances from Sergio Aguero, Ezequiel Lavezzi and a brief Lionel Messi cameo, Argentina powered on and won the match 7-0 to prepare for Wednesday’s friendly against Mexico.
It only took five minutes for Argentina to get started as they opened the scoring through Ezequiel Lavezzi. Some nice passing from Argentina saw them create the space on the right, which was exploited by Sergio Aguero with a pass for Lavezzi who cut in to the box and buried it across the face.
Daniel Vaca was the only thing keeping it 1-0 as he was pulling out some top drawer saves to keep Bolivia in the match. It should have been two in the 23rd minute but Vaca made a big save as he denied Lavezzi’s next effort.
Lavezzi turned provider in the 33rd minute and again it was all due to space on the right hand side. He found Aguero open on the edge of the box, which allowed him to hit a powerful shot, leaving Vaca with no chance and doubling the lead.
Before half-time Argentina made it three and again it was the combination of Aguero and Lavezzi who got it done. Aguero used his footwork to beat three defenders and thread a ball for Lavezzi who was left with a simple finish to make it three with five minutes left in the half, making it 3-0 at the break.
Yet again the Lavezzi, Aguero combination paid off for the Argentines as Lavezzi made a run up the right and sent a simple pass to Aguero. That left the Manchester City man with a simple tap in as it was 4-0 in the 53rd minute.
Bolivia thought they managed an equalizer on the hour as they managed a tap-in to get the ball in the back of the net. But the run was poorly timed, and was disallowed for offside disappointing the hard working Bolivians.
The fans got what they wanted in the 65th minute as Lionel Messi made his appearance, sending the crowd in to raptures. Just one minute later it got even louder as Messi headed home the fifth goal of the match after a nice Milton Casco cross.
Messi continued to give the crowd what they wanted and in the 76th minute he sealed his brace thanks to some nice work on the ball. A ball from Aguero allowed Messi to run on to the ball, which he switched from both feet, before rounding the keeper and passing it in to the back of the net.
Argentina kept the attack going and some nice passing unlocked Bolivia again and gave Argentina their seventh of the night. Matias Kranevitter sent the ball through to Angel Correa who ran on to it and sent it past the keeper for 7-0.
That would be all the scoring, as the referees mercifully called an end to the match right on 90 minutes. Argentina will face a sterner test midweek as they travel up I-45 to take on Mexico in Dallas.
