There was a 90 minute storm delay but eventually the two sides got on the field to get play as the storm passed through Jacksonville. That weather delay made things hard for both Jacksonville Armada and San Antonio Scorpions as the match ended scoreless in Florida on Saturday night.
In the ninth minute Jemal Johnson thought he’d given Jacksonville the lead as Marcos Flores put him through. Johnson put in a powerful strike but his run was just too early and he was denied by an offside flag.
After the 15th minute the Scorpions really started to get in to the match and create their first chances. With Omar Cummings paying up front on his own he was looking to use his speed but Miguel Gallardo saved well.
The Scorpions were left frustrated in the 29th minute as they had a golden opportunity when Stephen DeRoux was played through. He got past the defense and looked to round Gallardo who got in and saved, before Cummings recovered only to be denied by another great save before Jacksonville cleared.
The momentum swung back again to Jacksonville in the final ten minutes of the half, but the Scorpions defense were up to the task. Daniel Fernandes was showing his credentials as he was stopping everything coming at him, despite the weather.
A cheeky set-piece nearly caught out the Scorpions as a short quick ball for Johnson allowed him to get a shot away. His shot from the edge of the box went near post but Fernandes was up to the task again as he put it out for a corner which was enough to keep it scoreless at the break.
Jacksonville started the second half the stronger side again but for all of the ball that they had they just could not break through. With ten minutes gone in the half, the Scorpions brought on Billy Forbes again, and like last week that change swung momentum to them.
That momentum didn’t stay with the Scorpions as thinks evened out but with 15 minutes to play things really kept on going. Both sides were going for the match with an end-to-end style in the final stages.
But as the clock wound down, the heavy pitch was clearly taking its toll, with the players looking exhausted. Perhaps the delay also proved a problem, messing with players routines as the match eventually ended scoreless.
